Well, hubby and I got back from a Western trip not to long ago. We have been wanting to do this a long time and finally got around to it.
We drove out to the Grand Canyon and hit some other parks on the way. Overall we had a great time!
Here I am eating cereal in a Shell parking lot (We had to stop and buy milk).
Kervin getting all fancy in the Palo Duro Canyon in TX.
A rain storm sweeps through the desert in NM.
Patio of the Painted Desert Inn with the Painted Desert as a backdrop (my 2nd favorite picture of the trip)
Kervin playing with a petrified log in the Petrified Wood NP.
We hiked the Grand Canyon while we were out there. We were at the trailhead at 4:30 am. As you can see, it was a little dark when we started.
Kervin reading the map at daybreak.
Kervin hopped up on a ledge to look down over the canyon. (this is my favorite picture!!!)
We reached the Colorado River by 0730 and looked around at Phantom Ranch.
We crossed the river and headed up the Bright Angel Trail (we had come down the South Kaibab)
We stopped at Indian Gardens which is an oasis. A stream runs right under the ground, so trees can grow and shade the earth. Kervin cooling off under a huge cottonwood.
We finished the hike around 1230 - just a thunderstorm came through. The temperature dropped into the 40's in no time and we froze!!! Thank goodness Kervin had insisted we take rain gear.
We drove through the Navajo Indian Reservation. Depressing!!!
4 corners monument
Suppertime in camp at Mesa Verde NP
Indian cliff dwellings
Arches National Park
Grand Teton NP. The weather was cloudy and we were thankful for raingear again while hiking. Just for an instant the clouds lifted and we could see the summit.
Welcome to Yellowstone NP
Old Faithful
A cool falls to which we hiked (I forget the name)
Yellowstone Lake
A visit to Wyoming wouldn't be complete without dishing up some Rocky Mountain Oysters. YUMMY!
"Mountain Biking" in western Nebraska (supposedly the best) - We found it nothing more that an overgrown pasture with cow trails.
We stayed at Kervin's Uncle Vernon and Aunt Mary Troyer's who don't have running water in the house or electricity. The outhouse was. . .shall we say. . . less than desirable.
We made it home and are back in the swing of things now. It was good to be in church last Sunday for the first time in a month.
Have a great day,
Karla
